'Toilet, firm outflow polluting Sona river'

The Sona river which was once considered to be lifeline of Joda town has now been converted into a drain. Its revival is of topmost urgency for the survival for the citizen of Joda, opined speakers in a meet here on Sunday.

Organised by the Joda Vikash Parishad, the meeting discussed the main causes of pollution of the Sona river. It is unanimously admitted that the direct connection of the toilet pipes and discharge of the industrial outflow into the river have been polluting the river.

If timely action is not taken from now, then the river’s water will be totally unsuitable for human use. Besides, it will be a threat to the nearby Kanpur project to which Sona river joins, opined the speakers.

The meeting was presided over by scribe Sirish Chandra Mohanty. Others on the dais included Niranjan Bahidar, Sushanta Kumar Barik, Mrudula Mohanty, Principal, Joda Women’s College and Joda BJD president Jitendra Jaiswal. In the meeting, problems of the Kumarjoda CHC were discussed as well.

In view of the present crisis in the Joda civic body, attempts by the Joda Vikash Parishad to initiate development work were hailed by many people.

Sources revealed that because of a tussle going on between the councilors and the Chairman who is backed by local Minister Badri Patra, the development work of Joda has come to a halt.
