Three students injured as under-construction toilet collapses

Three tribal students of the Bharuamunda Upper Primary school in Sinapali block in Nuapada district sustained injuries and were admitted to hospitals as an under-construction toilet of the school collapsed on them on Tuesday due to rain.

Two of them, Debendra Majhi of Class VII and Iswar Majhi of Class VIII, sustained severe injuries. While Debendra was shifted to the VSS Medical College Hospital, Burla due to his critical condition, Iswar was admitted at the Mission Hospital at Khariar. The condition of another student was stated to have improved. Iswar’s farther Tina Majhi said the lintel over the door of the under-construction toilet in the school precincts fell on the boys when they were playing there.

“It happened due to the low quality of work and negligence of the headmaster of the school, who is in charge of the construction work,” alleged Tina. The construction work of the toilet was started three months ago.
