In a shocking incident, the proprietor of a Defence contract firm and his two staff members were attacked by tender mafia. The anti-socials demanded extortion money from the trio and threatened them to quit the work unless they followed their instruction.
The incident happened in front of the gate of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) establishment. The police officials of the Ramchandi police station who arrived on the spot after intimation by the victims sided with the goons and asked them to comply with their demand.
According to a complaint filed by Mukesh Sahi, supervisor of the Hari Om Enterprisers, his contract firm has taken tender for execution of some work inside the DRDO campus situated alongside the Puri -Konark marine drive road. The works have begun since December last. On Monday, while Mukesh along with contractor Ashutosh Kumar and another staff were coming out of the DRDO gate to take tea, they were waylaid by a group of persons led by one Himansu Paikray of nearby Badagaon village. They demanded money from the trio who refused to oblige them.
Suddenly, Himansu and his group dragged them to a nearby forest and attacked them with iron rods and blunt wood sticks. Himansu threatened them to kill them and destroy all their equipment and property, if they did not quit the work.
Some personnel of the DRDO rescued them from the forest. Rakesh informed the Ramchandi police by his mobile phone about the incident.
An ASI along with a constable arrived on the spot. Rakesh and other injured persons narrated the incident before the police. The police after hearing the entire incident asked the trio to comply with the demands of the miscreants. The police even advised the trio to refrain from filing a report.
later, Rakesh, Mukesh and Ashutosh were admitted in the district headquarters hospital. On Tuesday, Rakesh submitted a complaint with the district SP against Himansu and eight others. The trio also requested the SP to protect their lives and property from the goons and take action against the tender mafia and the police personnel who are working in collusion. Till filling of the report nobody had beenarrested.
