The newly-set up cyber police stations at Sambalpur, Rourkela and Brahmapur would start functioning soon, said DGP Rajendra Prasad Sharma here on Tuesday. Odisha is now having only one cyber police station, which is functioning from the Crime Branch headquarters in Cuttack.

The DGP said this on the sidelines of a two-day workshop on “Cyber Security, Cyber Crime Investigation and Forensic”, which began here on Tuesday. In the wake of rampant cyber crimes reported in the State, the workshop is being organised to make the police sub-inspectors and inspectors working at different police stations to understand the various nuances of the cyber crimes like how to register FIR, how to investigate and how to understand various legal frameworks governing cyber crimes.
Over 50 police officers from various districts and CID of he Crime Branch police are participating in the workshop, which is being addressed by personnel from NIC, OCAC and State Forensic Science laboratory. The participants focussed on how to check cyber crimes targeting Government establishments by hacking official websites.
