In a shocking incident, decomposed bodies of three elephants were found in the Borapada forests in the district on Saturday.
Some locals, who had gone to the forest adjacent to Dhenkanal town to collect firewood, discovered the dead elephants and informed the district administration.
After receiving information, Forest Department personnel reached the spot and started an investigation into the jumbos’ death. As per preliminary investigations, two female elephants and a calf were suspected to have been electrocuted after coming in contact with live electric wires in the forest two to three days ago. The animals’ bodies were found entangled in the electric wires.
