Three disabled persons, including a woman, have been crying for justice for last eight years even after the order of the Orissa High Court to the Puri district Collector-cum-District Magistrate and Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan CEO to appoint them as Shiksha Sahayaks.

Disabled Peoples’ Network State coordinator Sannyas Kumar Behera said Sriyamani Dei, Biranchinarayn Mishra and Biswabhusan Raiguru were selected as Shiksha Sahayaks. But they are yet to get appointment by the district authorities.

The trio moved the State Commissioner for Person with Disabilities (SCPwDs), which directed the Puri District Project Coordinator (DPC) to give them appointments without any further delay.

“As the authorities did not take steps, the petitioners moved the Orissa High Court which on May 4 last year and the HC directed the Puri district Collector and Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan CEO to implement the order of the SCPwDs within a month. But nothing tangible has happened as yet,” said Behera.

“In my considered view, since the statutory authorities have passed the orders on the concession given by the them District Project Coordinator and no effort has been made by the State to recall those orders, I direct the Collector-cum-CEO, SSA, Puri to implement the orders passed by the State Commissioner within one month from the date of receipt of this order, failing which it will be constructed to be an act of contempt of this court,” Justice BP Ray had stated in his order onMay 4 last year.

The victims have threatened to take extreme steps if they are not given appointments at the earliest.
