Three bear carcasses found in Keonjhar

Published on:

Forest officials on Thursday seized carcasses of three wild bears from Toranipokhari village in Keonjhar district.

The forest officials suspected that the three bears, a mother aged about 20 years, and her two babies, a male and a female of about three to four years, were poisoned to death by locals.

“The wild bears appear to have been killed through poisoning. Post-mortem was conducted and an inquiry is in progress. Action will be taken against the culprits,” a senior forest official said. It may be noted that bear attack incidents have been taking place in the area frequently. Four bear attack cases had been reported in the locality during the last few months, villagers said.
