Three persons were arrested on Thursday for their alleged role in the sensational honour killings at Haldiapadar on the outskirts of the city here.
They were identified as Kalu Nayak, Nirakar Nayak and Budha Nayak.They had been on the run. They allegedly killed their sister Mami Nayak and her boyfriend Amar Naik at the latter’s house at Haldiapadar late on Saturday night.According to Brahmapur Sadar SDPO Harihar Pani, the accused had left for Bissam Cuttack after killing the duo. On Thursday, they surrendered at the Golanthara police station where the police arrested them, he added.
Notably, the incident had taken place only hours before the 20-year- old Mami was to be married off to a person chosen by her family against her wishes.The girl, who was madly in love with her boyfriend, had fled her home.After getting information about this, two bothers of the girl along with a relative had reached the boy’s house at Haladiapadar and asked her to return home. When the girl refused to oblige, they had hacked the girl and her boyfriend to death.
