Thousands of people from the Capital city and different areas of Cuttack, Khordha and Puri districts thronged the Sudarshan Daru site at Gadakuntunia village in Khordha district on Tuesday.

No doubt, a devotional ambience is prevailing at the site, which is expected to attract more visitors in the coming four days till the neem tree, identified for making of idol of Chakrajaj Sudarshan, is cut and taken to the Shree Mindir on April 18.

“Till now, the crowd management is ok. But when Yajna starts, lakhs of people will throng the site. More police and basic arrangements should be in place,” said some conscious visitors.

A visitor from Bhubaneswar said as the site is near the capital city, people feel it easy to reach the site with their family members. “You see the enthusiasm of people thronging the site. I would come again with my other family members because this opportunity comes very rarely,” said Surendra.

Another visitor, Mohan Behera, expressed unhappiness that the district administration has not taken adequate steps to prevent dust infection at the site. “Temperature is on the rise. Dusts are flying as due to dryness of the sandy bed of river Kuakhai. The administration should sprinkle water on both the ground and the visitors,’ said Behera.

like on the Grand Road in Puri, it was seen that individuals and organisations were offering abadha pani on the roadsides from the Kuakhai bridge to the Daru site and on the side from Balakati. Similarly, a number of earthen lamp, stationary and ice-cream vendors were seen making a good business on the river bed.

Construction of a Yajna Mandap, Sabar Palli and other basic facilities for Daitapatis were steel underway in the area around which a strong barricade has been built.
