: A Mahila Samabesh was organised at Somenath Deb temple\ near Banamalipur in Bhapur under Nayagarh district on March 26 to mark the 107th birth anniversary of legendary Biju Patnaik. Due to Holi, the event which falls on March 8, had been postponed in the area.
About 4,000 women from Bhapur and Khandapada blocks congregated on the occasion. While Khandapada BJD women wing president Minati Sahu presided, among others Bhapur Block BJD women wing president Kabita Maharana, Khandapada Block Chairperson Upama Behera, Bhapur Block Chairperson Sabitri Pradhan, Nayagarh ZP vice chairperson Bishnupriya Behera, Golapokhari Sarpanch Rash ita Pradhan, besides all women Sarpanches and Samiti members from the two Blocks attended.
Khandapada MLA Soumya Ranjan Patnaik joined the meet as the chief guest and said that a big rally of the women of the area would be held in coming days and various competitions among them would be organised. He advised the women to be educated and encourage education of their girls in family, besides fighting against female foeticide and child marriage.
