The Barbil Tehsil office in Keonjhar district was gheraoed by the public on Tuesday in protest against non-fulfilment of the demand of opening of the closed mines and giving employment to the local people.
Thousands of people from nearby villages gathered in front of the tehsil office and blocked the road leading to it from 11am to 1 pm with traffic movement being affected for two hours.
A memorandum in this regard signed by Ashok Kumar Barik and others had been given to the tehsidar on December 30. Sources close to Tehsidar Prabir Kumar Khillar said that he has forwarded the memorandum to the district Collector and that no unwonted incident occurred during the public demonstration.
Joda BDO Ghasiram Majhi, Barbil SDPO Ajay Pratap Swain and local police station IIC Madhbananda Nayak were present to maintain law and order.
