This woman officer has a passion for painting

CTM Suguna, a1989-batch IAS officer, feels restless unless she gives final touches to her paintings even at the wee hours of the day. Her passion for colours though a recent phenomenon, she is now handling the brush with masterly approach.

Suguna, now Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the Department of labour & ESI, may have been rather a low profile bureaucrat, but the artist in her is alive, drawing landscapes, nature, birds, faces of children and much more with agility. Several of her vibrant paintings in beautiful colours that adorn her home instantly attract guests, said an art critic who recently visited her place.

An overwhelming majority of her works is on nature and nature-related life painted in acrylic and water colours to express her skills. Sunrises and sunsets beautifully portrayed in both acrylic and water colours mesmerise the visitor, said the critic.

What instantly attracts the viewers is the restrained use of colours in the paintings that are highly evocative but not garish, just the way one would want to see.

Anybody would be surprised by the artistic side of the seasoned bureaucrat. “Whenever I find time, I get engaged with colours, which not only keeps me engaged but also provides peace of mind and satisfaction,” said a beaming Suguna. All would agree that Suguna’s "paintings are truly reflective of life and nature", said one of her batch mates and a close friend. She added that one would be deeply moved by Suguna’s command over different mediums of paintings.  "This speaks a lot of her artistic skill," another IAS officer said. According to Suguna, she has chosen the subjects that are of direct concern and relevance to her. "My paintings celebrate life and nature as well as in creation and creativity," she said. Though she has not so far organised any show of her paintings, she would soon approach the lalit Kala Academy to lend her space for an art exhibition, she said.
