There's no rule of law in State: loP

Published on:

leader of Opposition (loP) Narasingha Mishra on Tuesday came down heavily of the State Government for not appointing a lokpal or a lokayukt even as the concerned law has been passed since long.

“There is no rule of law in the State. The State Government has failed to check corruptions and fund irregularities. It has no intention to appoint either a lokpal or a lokayukta,” Mishra said while initiating Demand discussion relating to Home and General Administration Departments.

He too slammed the State Government for not presenting investigating reports of Kalinganagar police firing and other incidents in the Assembly. He too alleged that the Government failed to conduct three-tier pancyat elections in a fair manner. “Many incidents of violence occurred during the panhayat polls,” he said.

Mishra said while criminal cases are on the rise, conviction rates are too low in the State.

Similarly, BJP MlA Pradeep Purohit alleged that political influence on police in the State is so high that the police are unable to work efficiently. BJD accused are being freed while opposition party leaders are being implicated in false cases. The police is no secular, he alleged.

However, BJD MlAs Amar Prasad Satpathy and Samir Ranjan Das refuted the charges saying that criminal cases like rape, murder and theft and Maoist activities have decreased over the years. Police have been actively taking up cases and accused are getting punishments.

In his reply, Chief Minister the law and order situation is under control. Police and Vigilance departments have successfully operating.

“A total of 68 Maoist incidents occurred in 2016 in which 39 Maoists were killed and 35 others were arrested,” the Chief Minster said.

He said the Vigilance filed 650 cases against 1045 persons, including 175 Class I and 116 Class II officers and 518 Class III employees. Following Chief Minister’s reply, the House passed Expenditure of `4365,28,49,000 relating to Home Department and `301.18,15,000 relating to the General Administration Department through voice votes.
