Tension prevailed at the Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH) following the death of a 25-year-old girl allegedly due to wrong blood transfusion.
The RGH Director directed an inquiry into the allegation by a five-member team and police detained the body for postmortem and also started an inquiry.
Sarojini Kako, a resident of Budhakata village under Kutra block of Sundargarh district, had been suffering from sickle cell disease since long. She had to be transfused blood for treatment. She was brought to the RGH on Thursday and administered blood from the RGH blood bank. A few hours later, she died.
Soon, her family members alleged negligence in treatment and also claimed that non-matching blood was transfused, due to which she died. "While her blood group is O positive, she was administered B positive blood," alleged her sister Bijayini.
"Appropriate action would be taken as per the findings of the inquiry," RGH Superintendent Jagdish Chandra Barik said.
A team of police from Raghunathpalli police also reached at the spot and assured to take necessary action after getting the postmortem report.
