Tension prevailed in the communally-sensitive Kandhamal district following alleged demolition of an under-construction prayer house by a group of people.
These people from Pradhanpada under the Khajuripada police limits allegedly damaged the under-construction prayer house on Thursday night. Kandhamal SP KB Singh reportedly said the police have arrested the prime accused while forces have been deployed to thwart any untoward incident. He said leaders of both communities have agreed to settle the matter amicably.
A preliminary investigation by the district administration reportedly suggested that the prayer house was being built on disputed land. The SP said the police are verifying the allegation made by the villagers.
