Tense situation prevailed at Kalinganagar as a labourer of the Jindal steel plant was killed on Saturday morning after iron plate sheets fell on him from a height of 50 feet.
The seriously injured victim had been rushed to the SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The worker’s death triggered tension at the plant site as agitated labourers resorted to cease-work and locked the main gate of the plant demanding compensation of Rs 6 lakh for the bereaved family. They also decried the lack of safety measures at the steel plant. Senior police officials rushed to the plant to pacify the agitated workers, said Jakhapura police station IIC Rajib lochan Panda.
