Tension prevailed at the Sum Hospital here for around four hours as a group of agitating medical students went berserk and closed the main gate of the hospital in protest against the death of an MBBS student on Monday.
The irate students ransacked the hospital alleging that deceased Mitrabhanu Sai of Balangir district, who was doing his internship at the hospital after completing his MBBS here, died due to negligence of doctors.
Sources said Mitrabhanu, who was admitted at the hospital and kept in ICU on Saturday, died early on Monday morning. As the news of his death spread, the students, including girls, closed the main gate of the hospital from 8 am to 12 noon and gheraoed the hospital officials. Meanwhile, the hospital authorities denied the allegation and clarified that all possible available medical service was provided to Mitrabhanu. “We provided all available treatment since his admission here,” said Sum Hospital Deputy Superintendent Basant Pati.
