Tension prevailed at the Sahara India office in Baleswar town on Thursday after several disgruntled investors gathered outside the office alleging non-payment of money post maturity of the policies under deposit schemes.
Some of them alleged that they were not getting a positive response from the company officials although their terms have matured 6 months ago despite visiting office a number of times. They further alleged that the officials in the head office were delaying payments under some pretext or the other.
“I have a deposit of Rs 25,000 for 11 years with the Sahara company. The policy has by now matured. Now, I need the matured amount.
Although six months have passed after the policy matured, yet the company is not releasing the money. The officials are taking the plea that my money has been transferred to SEBI and the SEBI would pay us.
I need money for my daughter’s marriage and children’s education. I am in dire need of money,” rued a depositor.
The aggrieved investors alleged while on the one hand their money was not released after the policy matured, on the other, the money is invested in another scheme of the company for a long time period without their knowledge and consent.
Following the incident, Town IIC Sarojini Nayak rushed to the office, pacified the aggrieved depositors after having talks with the officials.
An assurance was given by the branch manager to the investors stating that the issue would be resolved within a month and all outstanding money would be cleared.
Manager of the branch Bhawani Shankar Pradhan maintained, “As per the direction of the Supreme Court, things are scrutinized under the SEBI. Since the process is underway, the payment is delayed. The investors’ money is secured and they will get back their money once the proceedings are over.”
