Tension ran high at a private nursing home here on Sunday following the death of a lactating mother due to alleged medical negligence.
Family members of Barsha Ray had rushed her to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) after her labour pain. However, doctors there referred her to the SCB Medical College Hospital, Cuttack when her condition deteriorated. But the family shifted her to the private nursing home where she gave birth to a baby girl.
later, the nursing home authorities shifted her to another health centre as her condition worsened. She died when being shifted, sources said. The kin of the deceased alleged that nursing home staff neglected in the treatment, leading to her death.
A case has been registered at the Kumbharpada police station in this regard. Meanwhile, the Puri Child line rescued the newborn and admitted her to the DHH for treatment.
“We reached her after receiving a call from the nursing home. We found that the newborn was sleeping in the absence of any caretaker. So, we requested an official of the nursing home to hand over the infant. Now, the baby has been admitted to SNCU at the District Headquarters Hospital,” a Child line official said. Puri:
