Tension prevailed in the campus of the Bhubanananda Orissa School of Engineering (BOSE) here on Tuesday as students resorted to a strike protesting unavailability of food in the college canteen since Monday night.
The students locked the campus main gate and burnt tyres outside the college. Shouting slogans against the college authorities, they also sat on a dharna. Besides, the students also complained about poor infrastructures in their hostel.
“There is no proper food available in the canteen. We had to starve last night as the canteen was closed without any prior information. We are also not getting proper hostel facilities,” said a student.
“We are deprived of basic facilities in the hostel. The quality of food in the canteen is substandard. We have informed the college authorities about the problems several times but to no avail. We will continue our protest until our demands are met,” said another student.
Meanwhile, police personnel were deployed at the campus to prevent any untoward incident.
