Tension erupted after a Class II girl student of a Government run primary school died due to electrocution in the school premises in the Bahanaga area.
As the news spread, hundreds of locals gathered near the school, demanding compensation and action against the erring school teacher and headmistress. The district-level officials rushed to the site to take stock of the situation, while the district education officer took prompt action by suspending the headmistress of the school.
The deceased was identified as Ritika Biswal of Patimunda UP School under Chittal panchayat. The victim had gone to answer nature’s call, when she came in contact with live wire hanging low, leading to her demise.
While sources alleged that the victim had touched an electric heater installed by Shiksha Sahayak Mamata Sahu, district education officer HK Kandi said Sahu had taken an illegal power tapping by hooking from a service wire to the room in which she was staying and the victim accidentally came in contact with the wire.
