Despite the furore over recent cases of rape of minor girls in the State, one more such incident in Mayurbhanj district on Wednesday night has sent shockwaves among the people.
Sources said a minor tribal girl was allegedly raped by an auto driver in the Thakurmunda area while she was returning home with her family after attending a religious function, Uda Parba. After her parents got off the auto-rickshaw, the driver sped away with the girl on the guise of parking his vehicle at a nearby place and then raped her.
When the girl didn’t return, her family members frantically searched for her and found her lying unconsciousness near a bush. Receiving information, police rushed to the spot, rescued the girl and admitted her to a hospital. She was later sent for a medical examination.
However, the cops managed to nab the accused after an FIR was lodged. But locals alleged that some more persons were involved in the case, but the police have let them go scot-free. Furious over it, they hurled stones at the local police station and blocked the Thakurmunda-Anandapur road by burning tyres disrupting vehicular movement in the area for some time.
