'Tender fixing' in PDS transport in Jharsuguda

Published on:

The process in selection of level II contractors by Supply department for transportation of public distribution system (PDS) materials for two years has not done as per norms in Jharsuguda. Such an allegation has been made by some contractors, who were not selected, before District Collector Parameswaram B on Monday. The Collector assured them that he would inquire into the matter soon.

They alleged that transparency has been maintained in the tender process starting from the technical level to the financial bid. While the selection of contractors was released in the technical bid on April 23, financial bid was opened on April 24.  In many cases, the rated per unit quoted by the eliminated contractors are much less than that of the selected ones, which raise many doubts, including involvement of the departmental officers, they said.

When contacted, District Civil Supply Officer PDM Khosala said no backdoor policy has been observed in the tender process. “The complaints should have been raised at the right time. As everything has been completed in a fair manner, nothing can be done now,” said the CSO. The tender had been called for five blocks and three UlBs of the district. The fixation of workable price determined by the Supply department has not been done properly, according to their allegation. The Government may lose more than Rs 5 lakh per month in comparison to previous years, they pointed out.
