In yet another tender-fixing crime, a civil works contractor was shot at near Cantonment Road on Monday afternoon. The contractor was identified as Sibanand Bhagat, a resident of the city. He sustained a bullet injury in his left thigh.
Police said Sibanand, along with another contractor friend, had come to purchase tender papers for a civil work under the city’s eastern circle, when two persons stopped them and asked Sibanand to talk to one ‘Bhai’ referring to gangster Tito of Kendrapara before purchasing the tender papers.
When Sibanand refused, they went back and soon a group of persons came in three motorcycles and fired at Sibanand before fleeing the place, police said, adding a case has been registered in the matter and investigations are on.
Sibanand is now undergoing treatment at the SCB Medical College Hospital, where doctors said he is out of danger.
