'Temple demolition exposes Govt's double standard'

Published on:

Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) general secretary Aryakumar Jnanendra alleged double standards of the State Government in the demolition of temples, mutts and other religious institutions in Cuttack city.

The inefficient State Government has been demolishing temples, mutts and many holy places of Cuttack under the plea of a High Court’s direction. It hurts the sentiments of the people, he said. Most of the temples, mutts and spiritual institutions were constructed with MlA and MP lAD funds distributed by the Cuttack administration for illegal construction. Why these authorities did not object to the illegal constructions during the timeIJ Jnanendra asked.

Further he alleged that the SC  had declared 2009 as the cut-off year for action against illegal construction and encroachment, but the State Govt did not make a policy to prevent the illegal constructions. Rather, the State Administration instigated Cuttack denizens to challenge the HC  order in a higher forum, said Jnanendra.
