Education is a social institution shaped by a constantly changing world; hence, it is important to look at the way education changes in the context of new technologies and globalization, said Governor Dr SC Jamir addressing the 58th Association of Schools for the Indian School Certificate (ASISC) annual conference at the KIIT Convention Centre here on Wednesday.
“Though technology has become an inseparable part of education, but it can never be a substitute for a teacher”, the Governor stressed and urged upon the teachers to be more of as facilitators and supporters rather than educators in the learning process.
Speaking on the theme ‘Education in a changing world’, the Governor said the landscape of teaching and learning is changing fast in a fast changing world. Supporting this, he cited various key aspects of education in the wake of changes ranging from innovation to attitude building and multiple skill development to capacity building.
Stating that a better world cannot be imagined without a commitment to providing better education for our children, the Governor urged upon all to reinvigorate efforts to accelerate progress in improving access, quality and opening minds in a changing education landscape. Archbishop Rev John Barwa, ASISC president AC George, secretary Gerry Arathoon, vice-president PO Matthew and vice-president of Odisha Region Rama Kartik were present among others.
