A tranquiliser team on Tuesday reached Kumuri village of Tainsi panchayat in Angul district to capture the tigress "Sundari" but failed in its mission on the first day.
Sundari, which has allegedly killed two persons by now, had been brought from Madhya Pradesh’s Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve and located at the Satkosia Tiger Reserve in Angul district.
Satkosia Praja Surakhya Samiti president Janardan Sahu termed the move as eye wash. The team has no experience of tranquilising any hostile tiger in the dense forest, he alleged.
Citizen Action Forum chairman SB Mishra said Sundari has turned violent as it was translocated without food, sex and territory. The State Government should understand need of a youth tigress and take action accordingly.
The tranquilisation team reached the sport after the Angul Collector urged the Forest and Environment Departments to shift the tigress soon in order to avoid worsening of the law and order situation in the region. Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has also written to Union Forest Minister Dr Harsh Bardhan to intervene in the mater.
