Teachers' crunch robs DD College of glory

Published on:

Once known for its quality education in northern Odisha, the Dharanidhar (DD) Autonomous College has lost its glory due to mismanagement and shortage of teaching staffs. Hence, many meritorious students do not prefer to enroll in the college for higher studies.

The UGC has granted autonomous status to the college to manage its examination and course curriculum at the +3 and PG level but still the lecturers are not very satisfied about it. The post of a regular Principal had been lying vacant since 2002 which was filled up for a short period in 2012 after 10 years. Since then the post of Principal has not been fill up and already 15 persons have remained in charge of Principals temporarily in the last 16 years. Out of 54 sanctioned posts of teaching faculties, only 29 posts have been filled up where nine of them are working temporarily. Rest 25 posts are still vacant creating inconvenience in teaching. There is no teaching faculty in Philosophy, Political Science and only one English lecturer in place of 5. Many other departments are facing difficulty to teach the students due to shortage of staffs.

The self financing courses like Computer Science etc are even worse where hardly any classes are taken due to lack of teachers. In the Dharanidhar Junior College also the shortage of lecturers has hampered classes of students. Also posts of 48 sanctioned non teaching staff are vacant since long affecting the management of the college.

Due to poor education standard and less scope for education, the students prefer the private colleges where they are charged high and exploited.
