Surendra Mahanta (52), a teacher, died in an accident after his bike collided with a police vehicle on Friday evening.
Sources reveals that a Bolero bound for Champua by which Joda police station IIC Sumeet Soren was travelling dashed against the bike when Mahanta was trying go to the left from the right side of the road a few yards from the Banka-Chimla High School, where he was an Additional Headmaster.
When the incident occurred, Soren immediately arranged to send Mahanta to the Government hospital at Champua, where he was declared dead.
When Mahanta’s death news spread, agitated locals blocked the road by putting dead body on the middle of the road demanding compensation to the deceased’s family. Champua PS IIC Debendra Pingua brought the situation under control and court-forwarded the Bolero driver Ajay Pihu (25), who had surrendered.
