A Government schoolteacher was suspended for misappropriation of funds meant for mid day meal (MDM) and stipend of the students.
She was identified as Surama Patel, headmistress of Kanaktora Upper Grade School under Hemgiri block.
According to sources, a self help women group (SHWG) assigned to prepare the mid day meal alleged that Patel was keeping aside a major amount of the funds for the MDM. The SHWG had lodged a complaint with the Sundargarh Collector in this connection. Block Education Officer of Hemgiri block Dinabandhu Naik confirmed the irregularities by Patel after conducting a probe. As per his report, she was suspended.
