The duty of a son/ daughter is to take care of parents during their old age and perform the last rites after their death. However, in the modern time, people are so pre-occupied with their profession that they neglect such duties. Even some of them do not turn up to perform the last rites of their parents.

An incident of the sort has occurred here. On Friday, when Jagabandhu Sahu, a retired school headmaster of Raisuan village under Sadar block of Keonjhar district, breathed his last, his son was not there to perform his last rites. On the contrary, his cremation was performed by his students and neighbours of other religion.

It may be noted that Jagabandhu’s only son Bijaya Basanta Sahu is presently posted in a very top position in IBM (Indian Burea of Mines), Nagpur. Jagabandhu had high expectations on Basanta what he did not live up to.

Jagabandhu, himself a disciplined teacher, had taken much care his son, with the hope that his highly qualified son would take care of him at his old age but what happened was just the contrary. However, his students Bata Krishna Dehury a retired IAS, Rajendra Kumar Sahu, journalist, Dhanswar Mahanta, postal employee, Md Ali Zinnnah, staff
of Keonjhar Collectorate, besides his relatives Bikram Sahu, Pravin Sahu  and a few others came forward to lift the body to the graveyard and performed the last rites.
