Tea seller killed in front of DCP office

A tea stall owner was stabbed to death by two persons in front of the DCP office on the wee hours of Wednesday.

The deceased, identified as Soumya Ranjan Kundu, was killed allegedly by Kabu Dash and Pauni Dash, both auto-rickshaw drivers. The killing was said to be fallout of a dispute over a land and a pan shop, city DCP Prateek Singh said.

Singh said, “There was a dispute over land between the two accused and the victim. They had engaged in heated arguments over the issue earlier. On late Tuesday night, the accused were in inebriated conditions and spotted Kundu at around 2 am. The duo again had brawl with him over the issue and assaulted him before stabbing him with a sharp-edged weapon. The accused then fled the spot.”

“On getting information, the Saheed Nagar police reached the spot and rushed the victim to the AIIMS in a critical condition. However, he succumbed to his injuries. Police arrested the duo,” the DCP said.

When questioned why cops were not present at the spot during the festive season, the DCP said it wasn’t a preplanned murder. It happened in the heat of the moment. He added that the land was an encroached Government land.

“Efforts are on to demolish all the illegal encroachments on Government lands across the Smart City and a watch is being kept on extortionists and other illegal activities,” the DCP said.

However, the brutal killing on the eve of Ganesh Puja, that too in front of the DCP office, has sent shockwaves across the capital city.
