The regional politics of south Odisha has become warmer after the visit of Telugu Desham Party (TDP)’s Rajya Sabha member TG Venketesh who came to Jeypore to attend a social function by the Arya Mahasabha.
There were speculations before the visit of Venketesh that the TDP will may contest 2019 general elections in Odisha. And, Veneketesh made it clear at Jeypore that the TDP will field party candidates in Odisha in the general elections of 2019.
“As TDP is a national party, so we can give our candidate anywhere in the country and yes, this time in Odisha we are giving our candidates,” said Venktesh. It is also possible that TDP may go independently in some places and may go along with some regional or national party in the other, he added.
There are many examples in Indian politics that religion, caste and language have played a vital role in collecting vote. As southern Odisha is having a dense population of Teleugu people, so TDP is expecting language based vote bank in the region.
Political analysts say that TDP is maintaining a good relation with the BJP ruling at the centre. So in Odisha, BJP and TDP alliance may be possible in the upcoming polls.
