Samajwadi Party State president Rabi Behera on Tuesday urged the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to direct the Tata Company to control dengue in its Kalinganagar plant area as around 200 employees of the company are suffering from the disease.
Behera alleged that the plant area has turned into a breeding ground of dengue mosquitoes due to unhygienic conditions. He requested the rights panel to direct the Tata Steel management to maintain sanitation standard recommended by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
He also urged the NHRC to direct the company to pay compensation of `10 lakh to the family of the worker who died of dengue and rehabilitate next of their kin in a Tata Steel job and bear the cost of treatment of all those affected with dengue in the plant area as the company is the cause of the spreading of the disease.
