Tata Sponge's water supply project underway

The construction of the project work by Tata Sponge to supply water to Bilaipda village under Joda block in Keonjhar district is underway and will be completed very soon, apparently by the end of April.

The villagers stand in a queue to collect water from the tube well. The situation becomes worse in the summer when water level goes down; and finding no other option, the people use polluted water from the Murganal and suffer from many water-borne diseases. All these problems would be solved once the water supply project of the Tata Sponge gets completed, said an official of the company.

As per the undergoing project that began in January this year, water of the Murganal, after being purified, will be deposited in an overhead tank having capacity of 50, 000 liters. From there, water will be supplied to each household through pipe. Around 800 people, mostly Adivasis will be benefited by the project.

Sources said the estimated cost of the project would be around `2 crore and it is a part of the company’s CSR policy for the development of health and education of the peripheral area.

Ex-Naib Sarpnach Bishnu Khillar and village water supply committee president Arjun Munda and secretary Surendra Behera said this was a longstanding demand and now people are happy with the project. They thanked company MD DP Despandey for having realised the difficulties of the people.
