Tata-evicted families' jobless students on stir

Published on:

Hundreds of students from Tata-rehabilitated families who have received training (ITI and Diploma) in different trades by the Tata company with assurance of employment marched to the RDC office here on Monday and submitted a memorandum to the RDC demanding immediate employment at the Gopalpur Tata Project.

The delegation was led by Mohan Reddy. The memorandum alleged that on the pretext of establishing a mega steel project at Gopalpur, the company acquired more than 4,000 acres of fertile land through the State Government in 1996, but till today no industry has been established.

On the one hand, the company has withheld disbursement of assured compensation to the people who lost their land on reported political pressure, and on the other hand, going on imparting training to the children of evicted families on different technical trades with assurance to provide job, but in vain, the memorandum pointed out.

The students had also met the district Collector on July 2, but no action has yet been taken. While the district administration blames the company management for such unrest, the company is blaming the Government and the students are the victims of this blame game, said the students.

The memorandum also alleged that as and when the students and members of the evicted families meet Tata officials for job and compensation, they are misbehaved and implicated with false cases. If their demands are not met by July 11, the agitation would be intensified from July 12, the memorandum cautioned.

locals allege that there is a nexus between the Tata company and the State Government for which the company is exploiting them without setting up any industry even after 20 years of acquisition of land.
