Hundreds of locals of Maa Tarini Bihar (Basti) in the city carrying empty pots and lanterns marched towards the State Assembly from Mater Canteen Square and held a protest meeting in front of the Assembly on Thursday.
The protest was held as the General Administration Department has made an “inhuman approach” in disconnecting the water and power supply connection to the slum.
Maa Tarini Bihar (Basti) Unnayan president Kapil Chandra Sahu led the protest. RTI activist Pradeep Pradhan said that for 15 last days the slum located near Bharatpur has been deprived by water and power supply. Before two months, the General Administration Department, BDA and BMC had also come to evict the slum dwellers.
Among others, Pratap Kumar Sahu, Sukant Mohanty, Sachikant Pradhan, Baijanti Parida, Kalpana Mohanty and Rajnikant Rout were present.
