Tarbha NAC town reels under sanitation woes

Published on:

While there is hype about the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the ground level actions seem to be far from satisfactory here.

Meherpara (Wards 3 and 5) under Tarbha NAC is plagued by a number of civic problems, including the hygiene. Rathapara area of the town faces lack of proper drainage system and sanitation facilities.

With a population of 350, Shibshankarpara near the Girl’s High School too has sanitation and hygiene problems. This area is home to many poor people who earn their living as daily wagers and by selling bamboo handicraft items.

In the absence of public toilets in Block area, open defecation is rampant here. Although peoples feel bad about it, they are compelled to use open land to relieve themselves. It is a crowded area since many offices are situated here, said Nandi Kishore Bhoi, a resident.

In the Bypass road also, the main road is replete with puddles of dirty rain water, so that people are facing lots of difficulties while going on the way. On the other hand, water runs on the road at Ratha Chowk as a point of the supply line has broken since the Car Festival, which has not been repaired as yet.
