On the occasion of National Technology Day, a talk “Secrets of Experts: Unveiled” was organised by the Institution of Engineers (India), Rourkela local Centre on Monday evening.
Speaking on the theme Rourkela Steel Plant General Manager (Projects) U Mishra said that with advancement of technology, equipment design, the manufacturing sector has undergone drastic changes. “Use of microelectronics, hydraulics and automation system has made modern equipment modular, efficient and reliable. But on the other hand, this has increased the complexity. Expertise is necessary to rectify the machines or equipment in case something goes wrong,” he said. Many times organizations have to depend upon experts hired from OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) at exorbitant cost. Due to modular design and if spare parts are available, replacement of a faulty component of the equipment is not a big problem. But trouble shooting or identifying the faulty part is the major headache. All experts are good at this and are efficient trouble shooters, he added.
The presentation unraveled the technique used by experts and tried to give a mathematical and logical analysis for achieving an optimal method of trouble shooting. It was followed by a brief interactive discussion on the central theme.
