The regular and NMR sanitary workers of Talcher Municipality have not got their salaries for last four months.
They have brought their plight to the attention of the municipal authorities and urged them to clear their arrear as well as salary for the current month. Earlier, former executive officer (EO) Atasi Parida, who was transferred from Talcher to Deogargh Municipality recently had not paid any heed to the sufferings of the poor workers and had told them to clear their dues only after receiving some grants from the State Government.
In the meantime, Talcher Municipality Saphei Karmachari Sangha president Dhiramohan Ray has written a letter to the Collector, Angul highlighting the problems of the sanitary workers and requested him to intervene.
He said most of the sanitary workers were suffering from various diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure and asthma and were taking medicines regularly. Bereft of salary for last four months, these workers are unable to buy medicines, forget about buying grocery and other essential items for sustenance, he lamented in his letter.
Ray also demanded action against former EO Parida and the accountant of the office, who were hand in glove for non execution of many development works under Talcher civic body, including clearance of salary of the sanitary workers. Copies of the letter were also served to the Talcher Sub Collector and the EO Talcher Municipality to do the needful.
