Panic gripped the colliery area in Talcher after a man was shot at by unidentified miscreants on Wednesday morning. The victim, identified as Anjan Kumar Dube (28) from Jharkhand, was admitted in the SCB Medical College hospital at Cuttack in a critical condition.
Sources said three unidentified youths came on a bike and fired at Dube, a loader operator, near the Central Colony, one of the old staff colonies of the MCl.
Following information, police rushed to the spot and admitted the injured to the hospital. Preliminary investigation revealed that the incident was a result of a dispute over possession of a land at Dubey’s home State. Meanwhile, the police have launched a manhunt to nab the criminals.
Source further said though crimes have been taking place in the Central Colony quite often, with many staff quarters being illegally occupied by interstate anti-socials, yet neither the police, nor the MCl authorities have taken any exemplary measure to evict the criminals from the residential quarters and check the crimes.
