The All India Democratic Students’ Organisation (AIDSO) on Friday urged the State Government to take over the private-run Sardar Rajas Medical College in Kalahandi district with immediate effect in view of the ongoing students’ stir demanding faculty and infrastructure according to the Medical Council of India (MCI) norms.
The indefinite strike launched by the students of the college at Jaring, 15 km from the Kalahandi district headquarters Bhawanipatna, and members of the Kalahandi Medical College Action Committee over several demands, meanwhile, entered the 20th day.
AIDSO State council vice-president Subhash Nayak told reporters here that
although students and members of the committee had submitted a memorandum to the State Government through the district administration, no step was taken on the demands.
He alleged that despite having inadequate infrastructure and shortage of staff, the college managed to get a conditional permission from the MCI to go for admission for the 2013-14 academic year. But permission to admit students for the 2014-15 academic year was scrapped as the college
failed to improve its infrastructure and fill up the vacancies putting 124 students’ future in a fix.
