The Syndicate of the Berhampur University at its meeting held on Saturday reportedly decided to introduce 71 more seats in various post-graduate disciplines in Medical Sciences from the ensuing academic session to enable doctors to pursue their higher studies in their respective domains of specialisation.
The Syndicate also decided to issue the original degrees using most advanced techniques such as with watermark and other innovative measures. Mention may be made that the existing certificates are prone to security threats as can easily be replicated, source said. To avoid duplication and possible misappropriation, the decision of the Syndicate is, however, widely welcomed by the examinees.
However, the Syndicate’s silence on some recent allegations of corruption has irked the public and the academic circle here. The Syndicate did not discuss some of the crucial allegations such as examination scams, leakage of URET question papers, streetlight purchase scam, corruption in purchase of guidebooks for the DE students, cancellation of Semester examinations of the various PG students and the recent student unrest in the campus.
All these alleged corruptions are reportedly under investigation by different inquiry committees, and academic circles were anticipating their thorough discussion by the Syndicate. When the media questions the rationale of discussing only one or two issues at the Syndicate meeting ignoring the crucial ones and closure of the meeting at haste, the university authorities refused to comment.
Even though the members of different committees were reportedly present at the Syndicate meeting, why were the allegations, which are tarnishing the image of the university, not discussed, questioned an insider who did not wish to be identified.
