The agricultural sector in the State lags far behind other States as a majority portion of its land remains non-fertile. Consequently, many people are migrating towards other States in search of livelihood and ultimately resorting to work as Dadan or bonded labourers, said president of newly-launched Socialist Works Party (SWP) Niranjan Mohanty at a Press meet here on Thursday.
Besides, Mohanty said that the SWP is all set to contest in the upcoming general elections by raising a host of issues including eradication of bonded labourers, strengthening agricultural economy, safety of women and children, industrialisation, reducing power tariff, education for poor families and emphasis on employment-based technical education in the State. The party coined its slogan ‘Gram Bachao, Dadan Hatao’, remarked Mohanty.
The SWP chief further informed that it would field candidates in 15 Assembly Constituencies, Jharsuguda, Ghasipura, Basta, Jajpur, Dhamnagar, Barachana, Jayadev, Dhenkanal, Banki, Cuttak Sadar, Ali, Jagatsinghpur and three seats in Bhubaneswar. The party would get a symbol from the Election Commission within a short period, added Mohanty.
