The sweltering heat prevailed in almost all parts of the State with a maximum relative humidity average of 77 per cent on Monday.

The local Met office, in a Press release issued on Monday evening, said though rain and thundershower are likely to occur at some places in the next 24 hours yet no significant change is expected in the weather system in the State till next week till June 30.

“Although the State has received 44 percent less rainfall in June, the rainfall in July is significant for Kharif crop,” said Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar Director Dr Sarat Sahu. He, however, said some parts of the State would receive rainfall as the moisture level in the atmosphere has become high. Despite the onset of the south-west monsoon that hit the State coast a week ago, there has been no appreciable rainfall in most parts of the State.
