The first batch of 'Swachh Sathi' members from self-help groups (SHGs) to take leadership role in creating awareness among residents in various localities across the city on separation of wastes at source was held here.

38 Swachh Sathis from 11 wards under the north zone of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) were trained.

The event was organised in collaboration with German development agency GIZ.

More than 250 members of different SHGs from 67 wards would be given awareness training phase wise and the 'Swachh Sathis’ would go back to their respective wards and implement the ideas like separation of source for the municipal solid waste (MSW) so that while the wet  waste will be taken for operation in the micro composting centres (MCCs), the paper waste can be evaluated and separated according to their types and grades could be known.

Notably, each one SHG member as a Swachh Sathi will create awareness among 600 families in their localities.
