Swachh drive goes for a toss in Joda

Published on:

Although Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was observed from December 15 to 31all over India to create an awareness on cleanliness among people and the Government is boasting of spending crores of rupees for the same, but it  seems that it has no impact in Joda civic body and is limited to pen and paper for record only.

Sources close to Joda Vikash Parishad president Nira Bahidar said all the waste materials and garbage of Joda town are dumped near Old age home at Bachuhatting under Ward-6 in Joda and the municipal authority is remaining satisfied with this without further treatment of the waste materials for which the local people are living in very unhealthy and unhygienic condition for foul smell and smoke coming out of the piled garbage.

But the matter of concern is that the municipal authority is not aware of the alarming situation due to current fire catching the garbage. This is revealed from a reply of Executive Officer S Patjoshi to the mediamen when asked about the same.

He said action would be taken soon to control the fire. However, municipality health officer Dr RK Mishra is alleged to have taken the matter lightly saying that smoke due to fire in garbage is a common thing which happens automatically but assured to set up a STP (solid waste treatment plant) to permanently solve the problem.

In this regard, former Chairman of the civic body Karunakar Patra alleged that setting up the STP is an old proposal when he was the chairman and this plan is not implemented due to non cooperation of some employees who are working in the same posts for more than 25 years.

He demanded immediate setting up the STP and warned of agitation if the project is not executed soon.
