The Fertiliser Association of India (FAI) organised a four-day management development programme with the theme “Reforms in Fertiliser Policy - Need of the hour” at IFFCO unit from October 22 to 25.

The programme was inaugurated by FAI New Delhi Director General Satish Chander and IFFCO GM KJ Patel. About 40 senior officials from 12 fertiliser units participated in the seminar.

In his inaugural address, Satish Chander said that delay in bringing reforms in the sector as per stated policy of the Government limitations in gas availability and pipeline connectivity are impending growth and investment in the sector.

The Government as per its stated policy should carry forward pending reforms in the fertiliser sector. In fact, it has recently initiated reforms in many other sectors, like foreign direct investment in retail, insurance, regulating subsidy on cooking gas and diesel, etc. There are issues of imbalanced use of fertiliser nutrients, deteriorating soil health, declining nutrient use efficiency and declining crop response ratio to fertiliser use. There is urgent need for sustaining soil health through balanced fertilisation, he stated.

In his valedictory address, IFFCO Paradip unit Head AK Panda said that the fertiliser industry is going through a critical phase and is facing severe liquidity problems in view of delay in payment of legitimate dues to the fertiliser industry. During the programme, senior most officials from fertiliser industry attended sessions on sustaining soil health through balanced fertilisation, fertiliser policy, marketing, efficient technologies for improving the productivity of the plants.

IFFCO, New Delhi General Manager (HR) Nakul Pathak spoke on “Principles of Human Resource Management”. Chief Manager (HR) GC Acharya spoke on “labour law in fertilizer industries”.
