Suspicious transaction in Jan Dhan A/cs

The Jagatpur police of Cuttack city have started investigating into repeated deposits and withdrawal of large amounts in the bank accounts of at least 13 members of a Self-Help Group (SHG), who had opened Jan Dhan accounts in the SBI Gopinathpur branch. The accountholders claim that they have not operated their accounts even once after the accounts were opened last year.

“We are investigating into the incident. If any cognisable offence is established then appropriate criminal prosecutions would be initiated,” said city DCP Sanjiv Arrora, adding that in case any revenue or financial mismanagement is established, appropriate actions would be intimated.

Members of the Tulasi SHG said they had opened the Jan Dhan accounts in order to avail loans, if any, in future. But they were surprised to notice that heavy transactions have been made in their accounts after the demonetisation was announced in November. Reports said that although such bogus transactions in the Jan Dhan accounts were brought to the notice of the bank’s officials, they remained indifferent, much to the dismay of the accountholders.
