Suspicious baby found: The one stolen from S'pur?

A hue and cry is on as to the recovery of a baby from Bargarh. Speculations are that it may be the same baby that was stolen from the district headquarters hospital (DHH) here on midnight of March 23. But police are yet to confirm the matter.

“In the meanwhile, the baby has become six- month- old and it may be even difficult for the parents to identify him since there is lot of difference between a newborn and a six- month- old baby. If required, a DNA test may be made to identify the baby,” informed the SDPO Sambalpur BN Gagarin Mohanty.

Notably, Geetanjali Majhi of Amlipali village under Jujomura block had given birth to a male child on March 23 in the Gynaecology ward of the DHH. But on the same night, the baby was stolen when the family members including the mother of the child fell asleep. The CCTV footage gave a clear picture of a woman taking away the baby from the mother’s lap. Still then nothing remarkable could be done for recovery of the child. And in protest, Geetanjali and her husband Anirudha have been staying in a cabin of the DHH demanding to get back their baby.

But getting information of a suspicious child in a family in Bargarh, police smelt rat and took away the baby from the family where he was kept. Of course, the family members say that they got the baby from their relatives since there was no child in that family.

Hence, the police on the basis of the information and also statement of the family brought the baby to Sambalpur for a thorough investigation. Even the police are also prepared to make a DNA test of the couple and the baby and take a decision later.

Even if the matter has created anxiety among the people, but most of the police officers of the town are keeping tight lipped as to this sensitive matter.

But the Majhi couple has been hopeful of getting back its baby only after the DNA test.
